Allison 1000 Aux Trans Cooler Install: Full DIY Guide

An aux trans cooler is mandatory for any tow rig with the Allison 1000. The stock cooling is fine for stock duty but inadequate for heavy tow. Heres the full install guide.

    Step 1: Mount the cooler

  • Position in front of radiator (top)
  • Brackets to radiator support
  • Verify no interference with hood close
  • Verify no contact with moving parts
  • Step 2: Identify cooler lines

  • Driver side of trans
  • Steel hard lines to radiator
  • Trans-OUT line: top (supply)
  • Trans-IN line: bottom (return)
  • Confirm with shop manual for your year
  • Step 3: Plumbing setup

    Standard install (most users):
  • Trans -> radiator cooler -> aux cooler -> trans
  • Radiator warms fluid in cold start

  • Cut return line (one returning to trans)
  • Route to aux cooler inlet
